Unique Uses For Shutters In Your Home: Not Just For Windows

Margie Craig

When it comes to decorating your home, you want your design aesthetic to be as unique and individual as you are. However, sometimes this is easier said than done. After all, if you shop at the same home décor stores as everyone else in the nation, you may find yourself thinking that your house will look just like every other you visit or see. But, with a little ingenuity and know-how, you can turn standard home décor pieces into something new and innovative. So, get to know some of these ingenious methods for revamping standard window shutters and turning them into something truly unique and individual.

Create a Faux Window in an Entryway or Windowless Room

Interior rooms and even entryways can seem lifeless, dark, and uninviting without the right decorative scheme. To make them look brighter and more open, you can easily create a faux window in these spaces.

All you need is a vintage (or at least vintage style) window frame. You can use the frame alone or you can include the window glass for even more authenticity. Paint the window frame a bold color that stands out and contrasts with your wall color to draw focus to your faux window.

Then all that's left to do is finish off the faux window with window shutters. Mount the shutters next to the window frame to simulate open shutters and an open window, and the process is complete.

Build Your Own Headboard

You may not have thought of using window shutters as a part of your bedroom décor. However, you can create a unique and beautiful headboard out of wooden window shutters.

First, you will want to choose a color scheme or design. You can purchase sets of shutters already painted in the hue you want or you can mix it up and paint your own.

If you enjoy color variation in your furnishings, you can use two or three colors to create a sponged, stucco appearance. Choose at least three paint hues, and use a dark or medium tone as your base color. Then layer the other tones on top using your sponges until you get the look you want.

Once the color is right, you need to connect the shutters together and mount them to the wall to form your headboard. Be sure to use strong metal anchoring on the wall to hold up the weight of your shutter headboard, as they can be quite heavy. You can always hire a contractor to mount the headboard to ensure that it is secure and stable.

As you can see, shutters are not just for traditional windows. You can use shutters to enhance your home's interior design. By creating a faux window or a one-of-a-kind headboard, you will help make your interior design and décor as unique as you are.

Exploring Bedroom Furniture, Decorations and Layouts

Hi, I'm Victor Grayson. The bedroom is my sanctuary. After working at a labor intensive job all day, I look forward to falling into bed and relaxing. As a result, I really took the time to prepare my bedroom for the ultimate in relaxation. I paid close attention to the different types of furniture, bedding and decorations that would work well in that space. I used a variety of techniques to make sure my bedroom made it easy to rest without distractions. That means that my room is free of electronics and light emitting devices, beyond the single lamp on the bedside table. However, there are many different ways to set up the bedroom space. I will use this site to discuss the different types of bedroom layouts you can create. I will also talk about the wide range of furniture items you can choose for your sleeping space.
