New House and Ready to Decorate? Start Out by Covering Your Kitchen Windows

Margie Craig

If you have finally moved into your new house and are standing there looking at empty spaces, you are likely excited to start decorating. Once you get all of your furniture moved in, start with covering all your kitchen windows with beautiful curtains. Below are some tips to help you choose the right type of curtains.

Curtains

The curtains you choose for your kitchen should be able to stand up to moisture and heat. You do not have to spend a lot of money for them to look nice, as there are many options you have to choose from.

The material you choose for your windows depends on where they are located. For example, a window near your stove absorbs odors and food and grease that may spatter on them. Consider putting curtains that starts at the middle of the glass instead of at the top. This leaves the top part of your window uncovered where most of the grease and food will spatter, and allows more sunlight to come in.

Solar shades, shutters, and synthetic blinds can be easily cleaned with some soapy water. Putting up wood shutters or blinds, on the other hand, will be much harder to clean, as you will need to use a type of wood cleaner, and odors can sink into the wood.

Light Control

If your kitchen is in an area of your home that receives a lot of sunlight, you may want to consider choosing window treatments that protect you from the sun's harmful rays. When looking for window treatments, look for those that advertise protection for UVB or UVA rays. If you want more control, an opaque window treatment works well. They also make blackout curtains and shades, which are lined with a layer that prohibits light.

Privacy

If you are concerned with privacy, put up a curtain that is made from a sheer fabric. This keeps the window covered but still allows you to see out of it. Frosted vinyl is another option, which is an adhesive that you put directly on the window.

If you are not concerned with privacy, a swag draped over the top of the window looks nice.  If you have large windows, consider floor length draperies. A valance, which is a type of window treatment that covers the top part of the kitchen window, also looks nice if you want something simple. You can use curtains or blinds along with the valance if you prefer. For more ideas, look at sites like http://www.sylvansdrapesandblinds.com.

Exploring Bedroom Furniture, Decorations and Layouts

Hi, I'm Victor Grayson. The bedroom is my sanctuary. After working at a labor intensive job all day, I look forward to falling into bed and relaxing. As a result, I really took the time to prepare my bedroom for the ultimate in relaxation. I paid close attention to the different types of furniture, bedding and decorations that would work well in that space. I used a variety of techniques to make sure my bedroom made it easy to rest without distractions. That means that my room is free of electronics and light emitting devices, beyond the single lamp on the bedside table. However, there are many different ways to set up the bedroom space. I will use this site to discuss the different types of bedroom layouts you can create. I will also talk about the wide range of furniture items you can choose for your sleeping space.
