Thinking About Spring Planting? Plant Nursery Tips For Success

Margie Craig

If you regularly spend the winter months mapping out your spring planting, you probably also wait anxiously for the garden center and plant nursery to open up for the season. When you're ready to start planting, you will probably take your plan and your list to the plant nursery to buy seedlings and other plants to get things started. Here's a look at some things you need to think about as you're choosing your plants from the nursery.

Look For Buds, Not Blooms

It's tempting to look at those beautiful bushes and plants and think that the ones full of blooms are the best choice for your garden. However, that's not really the case. Once the plant blooms, you'll find that transplanting it creates a greater shock to the plant's growth than if you were to transplant it while it was budding instead.

Transplanting a plant that's full of blooms can often cause the plant to drop all of its blooms, so you won't get the benefit of those beautiful flowers anyway. If you opt for a healthy plant that's full of buds instead, you can let the plant settle in its new spot before it blooms, and you'll still get to enjoy those flowers.

Check The Plants Carefully

Before you buy plants from any plant nursery, you'll want to check the plants over carefully. This is important to ensure that you're getting strong, healthy plants. Skip the leggy ones that seem as though they've shot up on the central stalk without really sprouting a lot of leaves and other growth. Leggy growth is an indication of inconsistent watering or other struggles.

Make sure that the leaves are all healthy and free of any kind of pests. Check the roots to ensure that they are light and even in color and in good condition. Be careful with tender-rooting plants, though, so that you don't damage that root system.

Visit Frequently

One of the most common mistakes that people make is visiting the nursery once a season, at the start of the season. Unfortunately, you'll sometimes miss out on some of the best plants when you do this. Remember that your plant nursery will get shipments probably weekly or bi-weekly, so talk with the staff to see how often new plants arrive. That way, you can visit frequently and take advantage of some of the freshest and healthiest new arrivals.

Exploring Bedroom Furniture, Decorations and Layouts

Hi, I'm Victor Grayson. The bedroom is my sanctuary. After working at a labor intensive job all day, I look forward to falling into bed and relaxing. As a result, I really took the time to prepare my bedroom for the ultimate in relaxation. I paid close attention to the different types of furniture, bedding and decorations that would work well in that space. I used a variety of techniques to make sure my bedroom made it easy to rest without distractions. That means that my room is free of electronics and light emitting devices, beyond the single lamp on the bedside table. However, there are many different ways to set up the bedroom space. I will use this site to discuss the different types of bedroom layouts you can create. I will also talk about the wide range of furniture items you can choose for your sleeping space.
